Do You Believe?
Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

I remember hearing this slogan on Canadian television last year talking about the possibility of Canadian dominance at the upcoming Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

I must admit, when I heard it, I thought sometimes “no”. lol. Think about it, Canadians have already had two Olympics in their country and how many gold medals do they have? NONE!

And yet, they’ve been running winter sporting programs called “own the podium” and television campaigns asking “do you believe”.

Here’s the point.

Canadians could easily have looked at their past results and had a promotion saying “maybe we could win just one gold!”. Funny but true, because this is what most of us do in life. We look at previous results and let them dictate what we expect of the future. If Canadians believed that past results dictated the future, they’d be committing sporting suicide. We all know that.

And yet, when it comes to ourselves, we make excuses about our own expectations.

Another one of those human traits I guess *sighs*.

So where to from here? Well, firstly, cheer on a few Canadians as the do “own the podium” in Canada as their athletes think only of the future and winning gold for their country rather than looking to the disappointments of the past. Second, cheer for the Aussies, because I’m a bloody proud one and I love seeing them own the world sporting stage.

Third, look at something in your own life that happened in the past that dictates how you feel about future achievement and disregard it. Throw it out and replace it with the thought that you are going to “own the (podium)” and replace podium with your area of choice.

It’s not too late, your not too old. Go out there and get it!

Throw Out Your TV
Sunday, October 4th, 2009

Ha, ha… got you! You thought from the title that I was going to suggest what so many other personal development “guru’s” are saying and for you to throw your tv out so you can’t watch it!

Well, it’s almost true.

But first, why is it that so many “guru’s” tell you to turn off, or throw out the television, yet in the same talk, tell you about an inspiring sporting moment (from the television), or an amazing interview (that was on the television)? BECAUSE THEY WATCH TELEVISION!

Here’s the point though. They don’t sit in front of it like you do, flicking the channels until they find something that remotely looks familiar to entertainment.

Why am I going on about this today?

Because for the last month, I haven’t had a television. Admittedly, not by my own designs, but because the aerial is broken.

It has been amazing! I mean, I didn’t consider myself as one who watched much television anyway, but I really had so many habits based around it. I turned it on to fill a time gap where I was waiting for something else to happen, or I turned it on while I was eating, or I watched a bit to relax at night. You know the story, right?

So here I am one month on and how has it changed me? Well, I’m certainly more productive work wise. I have no tv, so to fill time I often sit in front of the computer and do work.

My wife gets a better night sleep when she has to start early for work, because when she gets home, there’s no television to turn on and keep her awake for that extra hour or so.

I’ve written far more clear goals.

I’ve started on a new business plan.

I’ve planned three physical activities and organised sporting events each week (not to mention a few others with friends).

I’m making more money than I have in a long time!

And guess what… I STILL AM ABLE TO WATCH TV!

But, but, but… “you said you had no tv”. Right! But the internet is a wonderful thing! The difference is that I never sit through ads, if I watch an episode of a show, I can pick the exact episode (by the way, did you know almost one third of a television show is ads!), if there’s important news, it’s always online, if there’s a big interview I can watch that and I can LIVE STREAM all the major sporting events I need if I really want!

Easy.

But here’s the test. I get a television back this week. Can I resist the urge to watch? I think so. My life has been way too good and too much fun to change anything now! Find out what happens here at VIP Success Club - The Ultimate Online Personal Development Resource Library and Community.

What Other People Think
Monday, August 31st, 2009

One of my biggest downfalls in life is always being concerned about what others think of me.

It’s something I’m working on, but it is definitely a work in progress.

I remember someone said to me many years ago that even though people spend so much time wondering what other people think, the chances are, no one else is thinking about them at all. And even if they are, they probably only thought about you for a nano second and made a decision based on that.

Ridiculous isn’t it. Why oh why oh why.

So the lesson is that we should spend less time worrying what other people think and more time thinking about how we can make ourselves better.

Sounds so simple doesn’t it. So why is it that I haven’t figured it out? A bit slow? lol

Double Your Income In 12 Months
Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009

C’mon, this headline is one of those bullshit things, right? Maybe a pyramid marketing scheme? Either way, it’s not possible, is it?

One word, yes, it is. And it doesn’t matter what your starting income is either.

I remember hearing someone say to me many years ago, “make sure you get good at something, but remember to get good at something that pays well!” It’s basic, but true. So where is this going.

Books.

That’s right, books. I’m not talking Jane Austin or Stephen King. I’m talking books that are inspiring and educational.

For me, and I have no idea if anyone else went through this, I loved reading as a young kid. I was reading very early in my life and enjoyed reading just about anything. I remember the “choose your own adventure” books and some of the other fantasy books. I remember reading some of the funny sportsperson anecdote books. I remember reading some cool books that taught me some things too.

When I went to high school, I no longer had time to read the books I wanted because I had to read the books for the school on the reading list.

Now I know a lot of people who love Jane Austin, but I’m not one of them. That’s not a bad thing, that’s just my opinion. I like tomato sauce (ketsup) on my steak as well, you may not. So what? Well, why should I be forced to do something I clearly do not want to do?

Worse still, we then picked apart a Jane Austin novel and were marked on what she was trying to get across in the book. What is that? Subjective for one. And who said Jane didn’t give a shit about a certain character development, they were just there because it reminded her of a friend. Do you et my point?

Anyway, further to this, because I was forced to read these books, I fell out of love with reading, to the point that once the 6 years of high school was over, I didn’t get back into reading what I wanted for some time.

Anyone else like that?

Maybe for you, because you were forced to read “learning” books at school you find it hard to pick up an educational book now, even if it is on a subject you are very interested in.

Well, finally, here’s the purpose of this post.

Read a book that will make you better and allow you to command a greater income. It may be in a different field to where your working now, it may be on sales, it may be motivational, just read something that applies to where you want to be.

THEN APPLY WHAT YOU LEARN!

Missed that last point? Then don’t even bother reading. It’s only entertainment until you apply it.

Have you ever noticed that if you undergo a new endeavour, that the first milestone is always the sweetest?

If you’ve ever started a new project… hang on… if you’ve even bothered starting a project, you’ve taken the biggest step! Anyway, IF you have started, do you remember that first milestone?

I remember for one of my businesses, it was as simple as registering a business name! That step still stands out like nothing else in my mind and a life changing moment!

Today, I passed my first milestone in yet another venuture and the best part was, I never expected to reach the first milestone so easilly. It’s the old addage that if you’ve built one business, you can build a hundred.

So many things stand out now in my mind that I used to read so many times, though never really grasped. The best analogy I can give is that you never know what a place looks like unless you’ve actually been there.

Have you ever been to Vegas? Even if you’ve seen a thousand pictures and videos, unless you’ve stood on the strip, you have no idea what it is like. Know what I mean?

Have a super week! More to come at the VIP Success Club blog soon.

Get Off Your Ass Loser
Monday, June 15th, 2009

Did the headline get your attention?

It’s not so much a headline as it is a reminder to myself, so don’t get your knickers in a knot.

Sometimes I just need a reminder… a blatant reminder of what it takes to be successful. And yes, the headline is a good start.

I spent so many years wondering why I wasn’t successful and have only recently figured out the winning formula.

You see, anyone can be busy doing stuff. However it takes a different type of person to do the stuff that PAYS well. And by “pays”, I don’t just mean money. The return on a relationship can be just as rewarding as an example.

However if it’s the cash you are after, get off your ass and do the stuff that pays cash. That could be so many different things to different people, but I’m sure you know what it means to you… and most likely, like me, you’ve been avoiding it for way too long.

Make today a day of change. Something has to give eventually after all.

More great tips tomorrow at VIP Success Club.

It’s Never As Hard As You Think
Friday, May 15th, 2009

I certainly have realised over the last couple of days that alot of people in society are not going to have the same value system or beliefs that I have.

But hwho decides what “society” thinks anyway? Who makes the judgement and draws the line in the sand to say what is and is not acceptible? Anyway, that’s another post for another time.

My point today is that even though “society” may disagree with the path you are taking to financial security or have all that you want, it doesn’t mean you should question what you are doing to get there.

A classic example over the last few days. It is a dirty word for so many people. SALES!

Oh no! But guess what. We all sell. You brush your hair, you are selling yourself. You talk to your children or colleagues, you are selling your ideas. It’s really just the way we look at things and the labels we put on them.

So my business partner and I have been out “selling” and guess what? It was not nearly as tough as we thought or even…. feared! It was a piece of cake. Instead of selling, we were merely meeting people and leaving them with some information about our product. They are free to judge it for themselves and we are not going to crowd them and take up their time.

It worked. We got some great leads, met some great people and had plenty of laughs.

It was not as hard as we thought!

Self Image
Monday, April 27th, 2009

People often say to me (and admitadly, I sometimes say myself), that sometimes, I don’t really care how I look. LIE!

We all care how we look, but sometimes we just shift it down our order of priorities.

Here are a few scenarios to think about.

1. If you are single, what if you knew you were going to meet the person of your dreams today?
2. If you are in business, what if you were to run into a future multi million dollar partner today?
3. What if you were to run into a long lost friend today?
4. What if something happens today and the television cameras are swarming around you later?

And of course, there are a thousand scenarios.

Now the smart money says, if you are never prepared for some of these circumstances, they’ll never materialise anyway. However, it’s just something to think about. You may not care what you look like, but what energy are you putting out and what image are you projecting.

I’m not saying spend 40 mins on yourself evertime you leave the house, just take that 30 seconds of effort to put on a decent shirt or pants, or throw some water on your hair.

The sick thing is, you’ll never ever know what difference it really does make either, because you’ll just think what happens would have happened anyway ;-)

Are All Good Domain Names Gone?
Saturday, April 18th, 2009

Simple answer… no!

The internet is still an absolute baby. There are still very basic domain names up for grabs.

Put it this way. In 20 years, the internet will have grown at least 500%! In fact, the way it’s growing, more like 5000%! If it does indeed grow at this sort of rate, the amount of websites out there will grow a similar amount as well. People will keep finding good domain names and even in 20 years, people will go to register one and it will be available!

So why not get out there and think of some good domain names and do some searches. There’s a ton of websites where you can do instant searches to check availability and a domain name usually costs about $10 per year!

Some people make a living from trading domain names!

Goal Setting
Friday, March 20th, 2009

Goal setting is central to everyone’s lives. Whether or not you deliberately set goals, they run what you do.

For some people they may be a “to do” list, for others they might be called “priorities”, but either way they still mean the same thing. They are things that you hold important enough to want to get done.

So why are we weighed down by the pressure of having meaningless tasks as goals or worse still, goals that are solely directed at helping someone else out (like a boss), rather than ourselves.

My point today is that I am saying to get your priorities straight and start setting goals for yourself. What is it that you want? You don’t have to start big either. Try something small, like I am going to walk for 15 minutes a day, or I am going to buy new pillow cases. It doesn’t really matter. It is the habit that counts and this is a very important step.

I know I keep getting lost in the world that I know all this stuff, but I keep forgetting to actually do it. Well, today, I am going to set a few new goals for me as well.

A great first step was exactly what Liza and I did last night. We went to a goal setting workshop. Maybe you don’t have a workshop that you can go to. If that is the case, do a search on line and find some learning material, or read a book on goal setting, you could even listen to a cd or mp3.

Just get started. As I always say, why not now?
