Tell A Joke To Someone
Sunday, February 1st, 2009

Here’s another simple tip to improve how your day might be going.

As children, I remember that in the school yard we would tell each other jokes all the time. Some hilarious, some funny, some offencive, some rude and some really bad ones. It didn’t matter though. Every time we would share jokes, I;d feel better.

Well, here’s todays task. Tell a joke to someone. I know that burried somewhere in your grey matter there is a joke locked away that you haven’t told for years. Now is the time to pull it out!

So to get things rolling. A poll was taken in Great Britian a few years ago as to what was the funniest joke in the world. Here is that joke!

A couple of New Jersey hunters are out in the woods when one of them falls to the ground. He doesn’t seem to be breathing, his eyes are rolled back in his head.

The other guy whips out his cell phone and calls the emergency services. He gasps to the operator: “My friend is dead! What can I do?”

The operator, in a calm, soothing voice, says: “Just take it easy. I can help. First, let’s make sure he’s dead.”

There is a silence, then a shot is heard. The guy’s voice comes back on the line. He says: “Okay, now what?”

I hope that improved your day!

What would I know about a long lasting marriage? I’ve only been married for two and a half years.

However when I was working at BridgeClimb on the Sydney Harbour Bridge just prior to getting married, I took up a couple that had been married for 65 years. Who better to ask.

So, standing atop the 134 metre high, 39,000 tonne steel masterpiece, I bravely said… “You know I’m getting married next month… I have to ask what the secret is to a long lasting and happy marriage.”

There was a pause for just a moment, before the two looked at each other (both nudging 90 in the age department), then a nod of “you go first” from the gentleman to his wife, before she said…

“Well it’s a number of things really. It’s always understanding your partners point of view, listening to them and what they have to say. It’s working together with ideas coming from the both of you. It’s laying all your cards on the table together, completely understanding where your partner is coming from and always making a decision together.”

“Wow…” I thought… pretty insightful. I paused for just a moment to take in what she’d just said before turning to the husband and asking him the same question, to which he also paused for just a moment before saying…

“yeah… what she said”
